GREENLIGHT 1:18 1989 PONTIAC TRANS AM TWENTY YEAR COMMEMORATIVE EDITIONS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 20, 2009) – The Pontiac brand name, first introduced in 1926 by General Motors, was marketed as an "athletic" brand specializing in mainstream performance vehicles. The Third Generation (1982–1992) performance-level Firebird, the Pontiac Trans Am, was the epitome of a post-muscle car era vehicle – one that struck a balance between handling and horse power that fell nicely within federal mandates. As a Twenty Year Commemoration of the ’89 Trans Am, GreenLight has issued two 1:18 scale models this summer – a 1989 20th Anniversary Pontiac Turbo Trans Am (TTA) in White and a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am Gran Turismo Americano (GTA) in Flame Red Metallic.
The 1989 Pontiac Trans Am was selected as the Pace Car for the 1989 Indianapolis 500®. This special 20th Anniversary ’89 Turbo Trans Am (TTA), based on the Gran Turismo Americano (GTA) came equipped with the turbocharged Buick 3.8L V6 engine that was originally developed for the Buick Regal Grand National. The ’89 TTAs were as close to the actual Pace Car as any replica previously offered by GM Dealerships – the only modifications for race day were the strobe lights and safety equipment. The Indy 500 decals were dealer installed, which meant a portion of the ’89 TTAs were circulated without the Indy 500 decals. Overall, 1,555 ’89 TTAs were produced by GM – the exact number of replicas produced by GreenLight for this run of die-cast replicas.
In addition to the white ’89 TTA, a Twenty Year Commemorative Edition ’89 Trans Am GTA is available in Flame Red Metallic. This is the first time GreenLight has released a 1:18 ’89 GTA with T-Tops, creating a unique piece for collectors. These Flame Red Metallic replicas are limited to 1,650 replicas worldwide.
GreenLight® Collectibles’ newest 1:18 scale Muscle Car Garage® releases are available through GreenLight official Distributors and Wholesalers throughout the USA, Canada and around the globe. The die-cast replica features a 100% die-cast metal body with authentic factory paint, opening doors, opening hood and trunk, carpeted interior with fabric seatbelts, window box packaging, and a sequentially numbered chassis.
